Grande mappa geo-pittorica della Biscaglia (in basco e ufficialmente: Bizkaia e Vizcaya: in spagnolo) la provincia della comunità autonoma dei Paesi Baschi, nella Spagna settentrionale. La carta disegnata dall’artista Gregorio Hombrados Oñativia (Guipúzcoa 1902 -1978) presenta una ricchissima toponomastica e un importante apparato decorativo con grandi scene allegoriche e di vita quotidiana con personaggi in abiti tipici, lo stemma della città di Bilbao, il cartiglio del Banco di Bilbao, il riquadro con l’esaustiva legenda dei segni convenzionali e le numerose imbarcazioni e velieri in navigazione nel Mar Cantabrico e nel Golfo di Vizcaya. Pubblicata dal Banco di Bilbao nel 1940 presso Gráficas Laborde y Labayen di Tolosa.

A very fine map from the first edition of “Geographia di Claudio Tolomeo” by Girolamo Ruscelli published in Venice in 1561 at Valgrisi. There is a really interesting Italian text on verso that describes the early history and geography of the area.
