Ritratto di Fortunatus Plempius

A fine portrait of the physician Vopiscus Fortuantus Plempius, active in Amsterdam and Leuven / Louvain engraved by Paulus Pontius after Gerard ter Borch [cfr. Hollstein Dutch 112]

Gerard ter Borch (also Terborch, 1617-1681) was a Dutch painter. He was a genre painter, also known for his portraits.

Paul Pontius (1603-1658) This is the well-known artist who lived in Rubens house when Pieter-Paul was on his business and political trips. It is believed that Pontius acquired a good deal of Rubens studio drawings when he left Antwerp. Pontius was a pupil of Lucas Vorsterman. With the same talent he continued his work but his personality was expressed by a more refined virtuosity, with a marvellous hand who shows best in his exquisite portraits.
