The propaganda poster published in 1939 features a map of the world with Great Britain, France and the various colonies of both nations are highlighted in red. Germany is highlighted in black, whilst Central European areas under German control, including Poland, Austria and Czechoslovakia, are coloured with black diagonal lines.
The slogan “Nous vaincrons parce que nous sommes les plus forts. Souscrivez aux bons d’armement” (We win because we are the strongest. Support good armaments) inspired by a phrase by Paul Reynaud, President of the French Council of Ministers was not a fanciful notion: in fact in 1939 Italy had not joined the Axis power so the Allied victory seemed inevitable to many, if for no reason other than the gross geographic imbalance between the two sides. However less than a year after the issue this poster would become terribly outdated. In the top left corner the signature of the unknonw “J Kap 39”. At bottom right Imp. M. Dechaux, Paris.
