Curiosa carta pittorica del mondo disegnata nel 1947 dall’illustratore Lucien Boucher per la casa editrice Diamino di Parigi specializzata in giochi di società.
La carta è il tabellone di un gioco di pirati originariamente pensato per essere giocato in due, ma che propone regole speciali che consentono la partecipazione di un massimo di 6 giocatori. La mappa propone rotte terrestri e marittime, alcune più convenienti di altre, su cui si muovevano delle figurine di pirati in piombo dipinte a mano. Ogni giocatore poteva vincere in due modi: portare tutti i suoi pirati nello stesso luogo o catturare due avversari. Dal punto di vista grafico la mappa propone l’inconfondibile gusto del Boucher caratterizzato anche qui, come nella celebre serie di mappamondi per Air France, dal grande cartiglio di gusto classico rinascimentale, dalla grande rosa dei venti, dai mostri marini e dai riusciti accostamenti cromatici.

A beautiful pictorial map of the world, showing the routes flown by French Airline Union de Transports Aériens. The world centered on Pacific is depicted physical with a nice colors.
The map shows UTA’s routes to the African Continent from Paris, primarily flying to former French colonies in West Africa, as well as to Karachi, Athens, Bangkok, Saigon, Singapore, Djakarta, Darwin and French Polynesia. Routes to Honolulu and Los Angeles from Papeete are also shown.
Union de Transports Aériens (UTA), formed in 1963 as a result of a merger between Union Aéromaritime de Transport (UAT) and Transports Aériens Intercontinentaux (TAI), was the largest wholly privately owned, independent airline in France. Out of stockA large and most striking educational wall chart introducing the student to the wonders of the universe compiled by Etienne Laporte and engraved by Th. Gheldof. A large circular depiction of the solar system with star map and comets, printed in blue, black and white dominates, the upper half of the chart. Descriptive text, printed in eight columns, is found below and which describes each of the planets with one section devoted to a discussion of comets. Sixteen striking illustrations form a border around the chart and which include depiction’s of icebergs at the poles, the Cotopaxi Volcano, eclipses, a cross section of the earth, orbits of the comets, the phases of the moon, and faces of the moon and jupiter, a large telescope, and the Aurore Boreales. Four smaller circular illustrations surround the main solar system illustration, with the title located centrally and contained within an image of a globe. The British Library date their copy to 1875, with the BnF suggesting a date of 1877, another version with differences in the vignettes at David Rumsey map Centre (11289.000) is dated 1878. Dissected into 32 sections and laid on linen as issued due its nature ha some occasional light soiling and foxing, minor creases, traces of age or little hole without loss. Overall a striking example.

Uncommon elegant Italian map by Filippo Naymiller showing the world in two hemispheres published in Milan. Includes a second sheet of text embellished by vignettes engraved by Baldi. It provides really interesting geographical and statistical information of the continents. The map was finely engraved by Pietro Allodi.
