Important first map of Japan published in a European atlas based on Luis Teixeira that sent maps of China and Japan to Ortelius in 1592. From the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum published in Antwerp in 1612. Althought as early as 1617 a more accurate map of Japan by Blancus appeared on the market, this map retained influence more than 50 years. Korea appears as an island and all is embellished by three galleons in the sea and two elaborate cartouches. [cod.1236/15]
