Rare 1878 allegoric caricature by Augusto Grossi showing the British Empire standing astride United Kingdom and America and India with Europe at centre. John Bull bites his hands because despite its riches and gold he does not find an ally to dominate the world. From the french edition of “Il Papagallo” a satirical magazine dedicated exclusively to international politics founded in Bologna, 1873 by Augusto Grossi (1835-1919), which specialized in stunning fine color-printed caricatures.
