Rare propaganda poster titled Основни строителни обекти през осмата петилетка“ (”Major Construction Works during the Eighth Five-Year Plan”) showing a stylized map of Bulgaria highlighting the most important infrastructure and industrial projects planned during the period of the Eighth Five-Year Plan (1981-1985). The poster uses a propagandistic graphic style typical of the socialist era, with the map in white on a red background and schematic vignettes representing factories, power plants, industries and infrastructure under construction.
The goal of the poster was to celebrate the economic and industrial progress of socialist Bulgaria under the Communist Party, reinforcing confidence in centralized economic plans.
On the lower right, a legend helps interpret the different types of infrastructure represented: in red, pipelines built and those to be completed indicated by the dotted line; in yellow, highways planned; and in orange, highways completed and those nearing completion.

The style of this poster is a classic example of Eastern European socialist graphic design of the 1980s, which was characterized by vibrant and symbolic colors: such as red (the most prominent, symbol of socialism), blue, green, and yellow, simple, geometric images, and the absence of characters, which allowed attention to be focused on the propaganda goals rather than the people.

The paper was published in 1980 by the publisher Д.И. СЕПТЕМВРИ, one of the leading publishing houses in socialist Bulgaria specializing in political propaganda publications and educational materials.

Socialist Bulgaria’s Eighth Five-Year Plan (1981-1985) aimed for significant industrial and infrastructural expansion in line with the USSR’s economic policy. However, as in many planned economies, many of these projects remained incomplete or did not have the expected impact, contributing to the economic decline that led to the end of the communist regime in 1989.
