Fascinating and little-known map by Louis Crepy published in 1735 that shows in great detail the Duchy of Milan, Mantua, Parma, Piacenza, Modena, Guastalla, and the Republic of Venice, with Trento and Tyrol serving as the backdrop for battles fought during the War of the Spanish Succession. The description of the complex river system is meticulous, highlighting, as emphasized in the title, the course of the Po, Adda, Adige, Oglio, Parma, and Tanaro rivers.
Jean Crépy (1660 – April 24, 1739), also written as Crespy, was a French engraver based in Paris. He retired from printmaking after the death of his wife, Marie-Vincente-Renée Chartier, passing the business on to his children. Jean Crépy was the first of a multi-generational family of engravers, followed by his sons Louis Crépy (169? – 1760), Etienne-Louis Crépy (1706 – 1759), and his grandson Jean-Baptiste Crépy, known as “Crépy le Jeune.”
